experience that I am planning to do is I will partner with the company Nerf to make a fake sword replica of Percy Jackson’s sword Riptide. The sword would be a life like foam replica of his. Nerf already makes foam sword toys, so they will just have to have a new design.
The sword is very important to the book The House of Hades because it is his magical sword that when you take the cap off it will turn into a sword. It has been his weapon since the first book and everyone that has read the book knows it. It is the only weapon that he has while in hell. When he is attacked by a monsters it’s his only line of defense. At one point in the story he has to send a letter out of hell and send it to his friends in the mortal world. He uses the pen as its normal intention to write the letter which is important because he had to let his friends know that he and Annabeth where alive. This is the quote where he does this, “He uncapped the open. As usual, it sprang into a full-sized sword. Annabeth had watched him do this hundreds of times. Normally when he fought, Percy simply discarded the cap. It always appeared in his pocket later, as needed. When he touched the cap to the point of the sword, it would turn back into a ballpoint pen. ‘What if you touch the cap to the other end of the sword?’ Annabeth said. ‘Like where you’d put the cap if you were actually going to write with the pen.’ ‘Uhhh…okay.’ He said skeptically. He took the cap of the pen and touched to the hilt of the sword and it shrunk down back to a pen.” Another important scene where he uses the sword is when he is fighting his way out of hell and he has to use it to cut the rope that is holding the doors of death open. “He frantically ran to the massive rope and began to hack. The clash of the battle behind him urged him to work faster. Usually things cut through easily when he used his celestial bronze sword. But this rope seemed to be made of some sort of tough rope.” The next moment from the book is when he first enters hell and he is tired, week and hurt. He comes across a group of monsters and has to fight them off. “Its been a long time since I have seen you Percy Jackson’. She hissed. It had been four years since he had killed this monster. She had pretended to be a cheer leader at his mom’s boyfriend’s school. Which he hadn’t really been at a full day and it was still summer. So he really wasn’t suspended but the fact that he burnt down half the school was probably why they didn’t let him attend. ‘Never thought that I would see you ever again’. He said as she and the rest of the monsters began to inch closer. He let his hand fall down to his pocket where he could feel that his pen had reappeared back into his pocket. Before they could take another step he pulled out Riptide and uncapped it to let it take its more menacing form. ‘Aaaah’! The hag hissed. ‘Remember this’? Percy said as he stepped forward.”
I think that this idea will work for many reasons. It’s a very important object to one of the main characters so anyone that has read the book would understand what it is. Many people buy these swords and so people will see other people with them and will ask what it is and they will hear it’s from a book so they will subsequently read the book. Then they will see how it is important to the book. It will help people that have already read the book to stay connected to the book by being a reminder of the book and it’s something they also can you for its intention of being played with which younger kids will want to do. This gets these young kids hooked at a young age and sparks and interest in reading this series so they will read it for a long time.

Post 3:What is a book
A book is a friend. A book is the friend that tells you the most amazing outlandish stories that capture your attention. You can go to them whenever you want. They are always there for you no matter what, waiting to tell you their story. Just like people they come in many shapes and sizes. Big, small, Tall, short, thick, fat, skinny, paperback, hardcover many different types but these days the way books are coming, is beginning to change. These days you can get a book on a kindle, on an Ipad, Ipod, Iphone, and computer. Almost anything that you can plug in you can read a book on. Many people have different views on if they like these new ways to read the books. Some people like this while others hate it with a passion and would rather sit down with their nice book with bound pages. People that don’t like these new ways say that it just can’t compare to a book with being able to turn pages, the feel of the weight of a book in their hands and the smell of the book and the little things that only a book can offer. People that like e-readers and tablets say that these devices can do things that a book just can’t do. You can read thousand page book and instead of it weighing a ton, it’s less than a pound. These devices are easy to hold and portable and you can take them almost anywhere making them ideal for people who travel a lot.
I personally don’t have a problem with e-readers and other devices that people read books on. I think that they are great ways to read and that they both have their advantages. I like the fact that devices and e-readers are portable and I can take them with me without taking up a lot of space. While I also love the feeling of a real book. Being able to turn the pages and flip through the book with ease. Both have a place to be used and I think they can coexist with each other with no problems.
First Book
The book that I chose for my first reading project is The House Of Hades by Rick Riordan. I chose this book because I have read the other three books in the series and I really liked them. According to Lily Davis she gave the book one star for awesome world building. Another star for making her laugh out loud. Another star for giving her characters that she could care about. She gave her final full star for keeping her engaged and because the book had great pacing. She gave half of a star for the writing, and took away one half of the star for so many dropped words. According to Flip that page.com the character development was staggering, and one of the big main characters, Jason, acts more like a leader and less like a bench model. Is hocking thing that I have seen in every one of my reviews is that one of the main characters has been secretly gay. Nico (the character who’s has been gay but not voiced this feeling or told anyone) saw Percy ( one of the other main characters) as one of his hero as he saved him when he was younger. This admiration over time had built into a crush. Some people are outraged while others don’t seem to care. I can’t wait to read and see what all this turmoil is about!

Why I Read
I like to read for many reasons. One is it is a fun past
time that I can do by myself. When I was a little kid my parents would read to
me. I think this inspired me because I wanted to be able to read on my own.
Another reason I like to read is, some stories are really good and entertaining.
They are like watching a movie. But a more vivid movie that you watch in your
head. I like to read on my own more than what teachers assign. Usually I find
those books boring and aren’t the type of books or genres that I like to read. I like
to read because it can be an escape from reality. I can just enjoy the story
that is fake and not worry about my own life. I also like to read because I hear it is a
good way to become smarter and it’s an easy way to get smarter because I like
to read. I travel a lot for racing and it is an entertaining thing to do when
flying or driving across the country.
